Time for Tea? The Wowcher Guide to National Afternoon Tea Week!

“Come, let us have some tea and continue to talk about happy things”

Hoorah! It’s that time of year again! No, it’s nothing to do with the football, it’s the big one, the week of the year bound to make us British folk a little bit giddy – it’s National Afternoon Tea Week! It’s thought the tradition was founded back in the Victorian era by the Duchess of Bedford as a way of filling the void between meals (no telly back then, you see). And of course, what better way to keep one entertained in the afternoons than indulging in delicious treats, tiny sandwiches and tea?

So in honour of perhaps our greatest tradition and export, we’ve brought you our guide to the best spots up and down the country to celebrate National Afternoon Tea Week…

The 5th View at Waterstones, Piccadilly Circus
About as fancy pants as afternoon tea can get, there’s nothing quite like escaping the hustle and bustle of central London for a spot of sweet afternoon indulgence. Located at the top of the famous Waterstones building, The 5th View will start you off with a glass of bubbly before getting down to finger sandwiches, sweet pastries, scones with jam and cream plus, get this, a mini traditional Yorkshire pudding with rare beef! Basically, it’s about as British as the Queen tutting at a queue jumper at a cash point. While it begins to rain, slightly. Get yours by clicking here!

Grange Manor, Grangemouth
If you’re looking for somewhere a little more tucked away of course, there’s always the gorgeous 4* Grange Manor House Hotel. Yeah, a manor house, we know right? How Downton! Anyway, the Grange Manor is just about the perfect place to sip a delicious cuppa and give that fancy tea-drinking pinkie a bit of action. You’ll be treated to finger sandwiches with fresh fillings, cream cakes and traditional scones with plenty of clotted cream and fruit jam (is there any other way?). Oh and if that doesn’t quite warm up your blue blood, you’ll also get a glass of champagne each to toast the occasion – marvellous! Click here to get yours!

Snuggle Muffin, Glasgow
With a name like that, how could you possible refuse? A cosy and friendly hangout on George Street, Snuggle Muffin’s cupcake afternoon tea selection is a finely baked slice of heaven. Aside from their huge array of teas (Darjeeling, chamomile, crème caramel, the list goes on), you’ll also get to enjoy a selection of truly delectable cupcakes and treats. Oh and did we mention the tea comes with as many re-fills as you like? Yeah, so basically fill your boots and be prepared to take plenty of loo breaks…
