Wowcher Does Shezan, Knightsbridge

Tucked away from the main hustle and bustle of Knightsbridge, Shezan is easy to miss with its unassuming exterior – but miss at your peril. Because inside I discovered a lavishly decorated restaurant where tasty food, friendly service and a warm ambience were all on the menu.

Traditional arches, Mughal artwork and a colour scheme that wouldn’t look out of place in a palace transform this Indian restaurant into something special (whilst making me even more desperate to devour the contents of the menu!) So with a glass of wine in hand and a desire to try something new, I pour over the extensive menu which features traditional Pakistani and Indian dishes with a twist.

As an indecisive (and somewhat greedy) foodie, the torturous task of choosing a meal from Shezan’s menu proved almost too much. Luckily I stuck to my guns and decided to veer off my usual tried, tested and decidedly dull Korma-with-rice routine in favour of the irresistible slow-cooked spicy lamb and spinach with a side of paneer-stuffed naan and curried aubergines. Here I discovered variety really is the spice of life as it truly was an unforgettable taste sensation. Succulent, flavoursome and cooked with just the right amount of spice, I was momentarily transported from drizzly London to a location decidedly more exotic. My dining partner had equal success with his choices – the sizeable mixed kebab grill that bore a mound of meats and fish expertly marinated and grilled on the tandoori charcoal BBQ. He accompanied it with the Pulao Arasta Dehlvi rice (cooked in rich stock, flavoured with spices and garnished with crisp onions) and a side of Aloo Bhujia – finely sliced potatoes tossed in butter (mmmm) with a hint of spice.

If you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy a good old Ruby Murray with an elevated air of distinction then you can’t go wrong with Shezan!
