The Wowcher Guide To An Awesome Autumn

It’s that time of year again – the days are getting shorter, leg-shaving is becoming far less frequent and your freezer is storing fewer ice lollies and double the number of TV dinners. That’s right; autumn is slowly creeping up on us. It would be easy to sink into a deep and carb-filled depression but with Wowcher-style positivity on your side, we can think of plenty of reasons to rejoice over the colder months. Here’s just a few…

Return of the wool
Oh my god, return of the wool Mark Morrison once (kind of) crooned – and he wasn’t wrong. Those smothering themselves in any kind of animal by-product throughout the summer months would be deemed completely insane or worse still, Kim Kardashian. However with September now in full swing, it’s officially appropriate to don snug and woolly garments like there’s no tomorrow. We’re particularly excited for digging out our winter boots or, even better, getting our hands on a brand new pair. Once your feet are surrounded by faux fur, the rest of your body is bound to be feeling rather jealous; but there’s little need to worry as knitted leggings, denim jackets and leather-look sleeved cardigans are all high in the fashion and the comfort stakes.

Being lazy (and that’s okay!)
Throughout the spring and summer, turning down parties and nights on the town is considered the ultimate faux paux. Unless you’ve got a much cooler gathering to attend or the likelihood of glimpsing any of the Made In Chelsea cast strutting their stuff on the dance floor, saying ‘no’ to a social engagement brings on a major bout of FOMO (fear of missing out) that even the cosiest duvet and cheesiest of chick flicks can’t cure. But, low and behold, once August is a mere pleasant memory in our minds and the dark evenings are setting in, it becomes far more acceptable to bed down in your humble abode. With plenty of indoor activities, why not tell friends you have a date with your new state-of-the art projector – what better way to get that big-screen cinema feel without even leaving your lounge? And of course, no night in is complete without the love of a good duvet, especially when it boasts a 10.5 tog rating and matching pillows – just make sure you don’t get too comfy and nod off before the end of that film…

Perfect for those inbetweeny autumn nights, this 10.5 tog duvet and pillow set should keep you just the right amount of snuggly under the covers.

Light it up
We rarely think about light in the summer months – with it staying bright ‘til past 9pm in June and July, there’s little reason to. But with the October clock change not too far in the distant future, it’s time to get creative with the ways we light up our home and garden. We love fairy lights, lava lamps and candles but why not break the boundaries and go for something even more unusual? Solar lampposts are the next big thing in garden lighting, recycling sunlight and using it to bring an ambient glow to your outdoor space. Solar power is also handy in a whole host of other areas, and with eco-friendly products like solar wind chimes hitting the market, what’s not to love?

Powered by solar energy - meaning there's no need for unsightly wires or unnecessarily large energy bills - this triple-headed lamp post is a stylish yet economical choice for any garden.
