5 Ways to Treat Mum this Mother’s Day

Whilst flowers and a homemade card are great, we think Mum deserves something a little more special after all those years of delicious dinners, cups of tea and (unheeded!) advice. Whether you fancy treating her to a spot of afternoon tea in London or a spa day in the Midlands, we’ve got some great ideas for Mothering Sunday…

1 – Afternoon Tea

Mums love the quintessentially British tradition of taking afternoon tea, so what better way to treat her (and yourself!) than with a sugary spread and afternoon full of nattering. Now something of a trend amongst discerning diners, it’s easy to find everything from themed teas, and traditional country house spreads to our personal favourite – the afternoon tea complete with bubbly! Have a look at this comprehensive guide to afternoon tea to find a place near you.

2 – Massage

The likelihood is over the years you’ll have been responsible for a few of your mums permanent stress knots, so why not help her finally get an hour to herself to relax with a soothing massage. Whether it’s a sweet-smelling aromatherapy massage, a hard to resist
chocolate massage or a holistic reflexology massage, her reduced stress levels are bound to benefit not just her but you too!

3 – Wine Tasting

You blame her for your unbreakable Sauvignon habit, so why not give her a gift you know she’ll truly appreciate by organising an evening of wine tasting? Whether you head to your nearest Italian restaurant or take advantage of one of the many at home bespoke services – it’s sure to be a hit. Plus, if you fancy getting ahead and impressing her with your advanced tasting knowledge why not check out these handy hints on how to best appreciate your glass of vino.

4 – Theatre

Be it a feel-good musical, a classic Shakespearian tragedy or a laugh-out-loud comedy, there’s no better way to spend an afternoon than a trip to the theatre. Mum will love the high-end treat and if you pick wisely (we’re talking Macbeth with James McAvoy) you’ll get to spend the afternoon drooling over talented thespians. Win win!

5 – Get Outdoors

Mother’s Day doesn’t have to be all about spending money to atone for your sins! If you’re feeling the pinch this March then why not treat her to a day out that doesn’t involve flashing the cash. With spring on the horizon it’s the perfect time to take her walking and spend the day catching up whilst getting some much-needed fresh air. With an abundance of picturesque parks, idyllic gardens and breath-taking scenery dotted around the country there’s sure to be the perfect experience lurking just on your front doorstep. Head to The Walking Englishman for some great ideas.

Oh, and for all those who aren’t in the loop, it’s MARCH 10TH – Don’t forget!
